AR in Southern California

If you want to be in the "know" about what is happening with Adventure Racing in Southern California then you MUST belong to SCARABS Southern California Adventure Racing Buddies. Everyone we know in the region belongs to this yahoo group. Postings about any races, training events, team building, or information about gear, items for sale and everything else is exchanged on this forum.

In 2009 a new organization started to point novices to Adventure Racing in the correct direction - the California Adventure Racing Association is a place to look for events, tips and links to information (including a calendar).

Race organizers in So Cal include:
Team SOLE Custom Footbeds, Paul Romero and Karen Lundgren put on races and have training camps (some are one day adventures and they also put on E-Camp which is a full-on, long-weekend, where you will learn everything about real racing - not just the small 4-6 hour fun events). P&K are also a big part of the Baja Travesia organization, mentioned below.
Sierra Adventure Sports (put on races in the South Western States).
Big Blue Adventures (put on races throughout California).
Equinox Adventure Racing - that would be us. We put on small races to introduce people to AR. Our races are generally in San Diego and Baja Norte.

AR in Northern California

While we do not live up north, it appears the northern counterpart to SCARABS is both BAAR Bay Area Adventure Racing and BAARBD Bay Area Adventure Racing Babes & Dudes.

Also up north (anything north of LA is up north to us) are the following groups and organizations:
Central Coast Adventure Challenge (one of our favorite races, in San Luis Obispo)
Big Blue Adventures (mentioned above)

Adventure Racing in Arizona

For those of us in San Diego, Arizona is less of a hassle to get to than crossing LA. So we recommend you look at AARB Arizona Adventure Racing Buddies.

We have a great friend in SAS Sierra Adventure Sports. They write events in AZ, NV, CA and many other locations (check out their Nav Guides) and we thoroughly recommend any and all of their races -- we have helped write some of them in the So Cal Area, and Ricks a good guy.

Adventure Racing in Baja

South of the border there are a lot of great racers and if you read Spanish we recommend you join the Tijuana group (bajacal@yahoogroups) and the Mexicali group (nortrem@yahoogroups).

There are some great races in central Mexico, but close to us is one of the greatest races around. Baja Travesia is an expedition race (multi day, many miles) which has become folkloric. If you want to try the real-deal you need to aim to participate in this.
