NewsRather than maintain our own web pages with reports, we tap into a great site which gives reports from all over the USA and around the World. The links below mostly take you to Adventure Race Reports dot com. At this site you can reply to our postings or you can create your own tales of adventure. For registration we are happy to partner with Race It dot com, where you can register and we get the details in a nice spreadsheet.Future EventsLast update (8/24/10)
2010 Races Our plans for 2010 include the following. We do not yet have a calendar for 2011 and are unlikely to post one until other organizers have set their 2011 schedule (we attempt to fill gaps). But please look back soon and keep informed.
Next race October - 02 The event will include Bike (about 22K, 13 mi), Hike (10K, 6 mi) and Kayak (10K, 6 mi). The course is relatively flat with just 550 ft of elevation gain on the bike and 790 ft of elevation gain on the hike. Start time 10 AM Routes handed out 9 AM This is a very short and fast course with the emphasis on some fun trails. The distances above are for the long course, there is a shorter course. To sign up for the Adventure Race please go to our registration page at ![]() You must provide your own boats if you wish to do the optional kayak section. There is a lake fee of $2 (single) or $5 (double) per kayak for the day. NOTE We have an idea for the kayak if people who own kayaks are receptive. If those who own kayaks would be willing to rent or loan their kayak to someone who does not have a kayak, then some racers will start the race with the kayak section, then do the bike and hike. Meanwhile others will do the bike first, then the hike and finish with the kayak section. There are 3 checkpoints on the kayak section which adds up to about 6 miles. For good paddlers this should take about 1 hour. But as all checkpoints are optional, a novice team could visit just 1 checkpoint and take about 20-30 minutes so they experience the kayaking. I know some kayaks are too tippy, or too new to rent them to someone you do not know, so if you do not wish to rent your kayak ignore this idea. If however you are willing to rent your kayak please email (equinox.adventure@gmail.com) and tell us the type of kayak, sit-on-top or sit-in, and how many people it will accommodate and your rental price. At the same time those without kayaks should let us know and we will keep a list of names, then hook you up with the first person who offers their boat. It is then up to you to come to an agreement, or we will try and have you connect with someone else. If this idea is all too wacky for you then ignore the suggestion. We are just trying to connect those with boats who are able to share, with those who would like to paddle. END OF NOTE Directions to Start / TA / Finish: From Interstate 805 in Chula Vista take the Telegraph Canyon exit east. Go about 9 miles and turn right onto an acess road to the lake shore. See map below: Mapquest: look for; 8000 Otay Lakes Road, Chula Vista CA 91915 As in all of Equinox’s races, you pay nothing, you win nothing, and you accept full responsibility for your actions. Photos of some of the Otay race trails: Bike (we want you to stay on trails and fire-road) Hike (we expect you to use critter trails or go cross country) Kayak (yes the lake is quite big) November - 06 The fifth race we have planned for 2010 will be about a 12 hour race it may go longer as we have lots of options. It will involve multiple kayak, bike and hike. No crews necessary. NOTE: As well as these races we sometimes put on navigation classes / AR orienteering races. We had one in January before part of the Rose Canyon / Miramar area was closed. We had another in April. Our next outing will likely be in 2011. They are held in the evening and the wining time could be as low as 1½ hours, with a hike time of more like 3+ hours. The idea is to just have some fun and learn to read a map. Because of our location they kind-of gear themselves to San Diego folks. As in all of Equinox’s races, you pay nothing, you win nothing, and you accept full responsibility for your actions.
